Aged Care Jobs in Australia and WA Like many other countries in the world, Australia is grappling with a severe shortage of registered nurses (RNs) to work in the aged care sector. All areas of nursing are currently affected by shortages and high care residential aged care services are no exception.
The selection, recruitment and retention of suitable staff to meet the complex needs of residents in aged care facilities are becoming increasingly challenging and are being addressed as a matter of priority.
Residents in aged care facilities require increasingly complex care and the need for qualified and skilled nursing staff has never been greater. Currently, nursing is experiencing difficulties in maintaining an adequate workforce and the ageing population (including the nursing workforce) means more challenges lie ahead. Innovative and creative strategies are constantly being developed to improve the image of aged care nursing and to promote work in aged care as a career specialty for nurses.
Australia’s rapidly aging workforce will see thousands of nurses retire over the next 20 years, and even though there is an increase in enrolments in university nursing courses, the dropout rate is relatively high.
